Helicopter Index

This section is dedicated to helicopters that are used in Emergency Services. The uses for helicopters are wide and varied but include:

  • Crime detection/law enforcement
  • Fire fighting
  • Search & Rescue
  • Medical Evacuations (Medivac)
  • Rapid transport of people and supplies

The majority of these helicopters were captured during firefighting efforts in the Sydney (NSW) area of Australia during December 2001 and January 2002. However, there are also photos of helicopters taken outside this period. I have not being taking photos of helicopters for very long. Helicopter photography could be argued as the most difficult type of Emergency Vehicle photography due to the type of operations and also the nature of helicopter operations. Needless to say, a zoom lens is handy for this type of work.
